Jatiyatabad Punor Nirman Samittee, Axom Celebrates Save Northeast Day

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Jatiyatabad Punor Nirman Samittee, Axom celebrated Save Northeast Day on Wednesday and claimed that the movement initiated by Purbanchaliya Loka Parishad (PLP) for unity of North East faced destruction because of some of the leaders of Assam agitation. Explaining the significance of celebrating North East day, Secretary of Jatiyatabad Punor Nirman Samiti, Assam, Rajkumar baishya said, "In the leadership of PLP in 1984 a total of 18 party took the issue of illegal immigrants to be the problem for the entire North East and came out to protest on this issue on 14th August. The bandh called by the assemblage of the 18 party became successful.

Since the success of that historical day, Save Northeast Day has been celebrated in order to maintain the solidarity of entire North East. Due to conspiracy of some of the leaders the journey taken for unity stopped in its budding stage. Now we're determined to restart the journey and our only motif is to fulfill the dream that Nibaron Bora and PLP once dreamt of during 1984. We've decided to celebrate the next Save North East day in Manipur." Addressing the press and criticizing Manash Mahanta for not mentioning about the role of late Nibaran Bora and PLP in his book on Assam agitation published on 11th August here at Guwahati Press Club, Baishya added, "It's a conspiracy and we make it clear that keeping aside Nibaran bora and PLP, any discussion on Assam agitation is totally baseless." Present in the occasion Pradip Gogoi the vice president of ULFA said, "Until and unless our inside fights get resolved any protest against Delhi is of no means. The Assamese society has nothing to call as work culture and ethnic character. If we could've developed these two characteristics, probably the situation that now we're going through would never happened." The other dignitaries present in the occasion include Advocate and social worker Junmani Devi Khaund, Trade Union leader Dugdharam Kalita, Human Rights worker Aditya lahkar, central leader of ULFA Mrinal Hazarika and many others.
