GUWAHATI: The Junior Doctors Association (JDA) of Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) condemned the alleged assault of Dr Madhurjya Kakati by police personnel at Amteka MPHC, Chirang on Sunday.

According to a release by JDA, Dr Kakati is an alumnus of GMCH and a past member of JDA. The release stated, "Dr Kakati along with his staff accountant and pharmacist were brutally assaulted while they were returning from their door to door visit duties for COVID-19. The incident took place near the PHC campus when they were busy searching for the lost keys of the hospital quarter in front of the hospital gate.

The police personnel berated and abused him for doffing his mask and asked to kneel down. The personnel assaulted him with a baton leading to grievous injuries. He now feels handicapped physically and mentally to work in that area, after being completely ridiculed in front of the people for whom he works."

In this regard, the JDA has decided to observe a black day on May 27 by wearing black badges while performing their duties to condemn the incident. The association appealed to the concerned authorities to take strict action against the culprits.
