Kaamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Sets Deadline for Road Renovation

GUWAHATI, Sept 15: The State PWD has set a deadline for the repair and reconstruction of roads in Kamrup (M) before the Durga Puja. Can it meet the target?

Road renovation is a complicated matter in Guwahati with many other hurdles coming its way. When digging of roads for the installation of water pipes goes on in the city, the PWD ® seems to be totally handicapped. There are other hurdles as well.

However, the Kamrup (M) district administration has taken a few steps this time around so as to let the PWD® to complete road renovation works before the Durga Puja. To make that really happen, ADC Pulok Mahanta presided over a meeting with representatives PWD®, JICA, IVRCL, Gamon India, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Guwahati Jal Board, and the AIUUP on Saturday. In order to let the PWD ® to complete road renovation in the city before the Durga Puja, the ADC has set a deadline for all agencies that have been approved for carrying out digging activities in city roads for laying pipelines for water supply under various projects to complete their digging activities by September. If the agencies meet this deadline, the ADC feels, the PWD® will get enough time to renovate all needy roads in the city before the Durga Puja.

This is just a plan that has been worked out by the Kamrup (M) district administration. If the plan will be implemented accordingly or not is something different. This is because many such plans failed to get their desired shapes in the city in the past. What may spell doom for the plan that only 15 days are to go for September during which the agencies carrying out digging activities on roads in the city will have to complete digging activities. If they can, the chances for the PWD ® to get things before the Durga Puja are bright. If the agencies cannot complete their digging works within the time stipulated, the entire plan may go awry. It also cannot be taken for granted that in the event of the agencies completing their digging works by September, PWD® will be able to renovate all needy roads before the Durga Puja.

Be that as it may, it is a matter to keep tabs on in the days ahead.
