GUWAHATI: The Kamakhya Devalaya Authority on Tuesday confirmed that the temple will be opened only after the COVID-19 infrastructure as ordered by the district administration is completed.

The Authority stated that currently they are implementing the guidelines issued by the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration to open the temple's premises for the devotees..

Addressing a press meet, Doloi Mohit Chandra Sarma and Doloi Kabindra Sarma said Kamakhya Devalaya has been closed since March 20.

"The district administration issued guidelines following a meeting held at the DC office. We hope that temple can be opened after the COVID-19 infrastructure works are completed," said Doloi Kabindra Sarma.

Currently, the Devalaya Authority authority is developing a holding area for 500 people and is arranging online passes for the devotees.

"At the time of entry point to the temple devotees will have to go through medical tests. We are setting up medical booths and the DC has asked to deploy police personnel at the entry point of the temple. After these procedures only we can hope that the gates of the temple will be open for the public," said Doloi Mohit Chandra Sarma.

The Devalaya Authority informed the mediapersons that the Siddheshwar temple field along with the newly constructed parking place of Kamakhya will be used as holding area.

"Steps are being taken so that the car parking can be used as holding area. To complete all these works we will need some time. The process for issuing of online passes is also underway. It is a new initiative for the Kamakhya temple. Thus, we will coordinate with IT personnel on the same," added Doloi Mohit Chandra Sarma.

Moreover, the authorities have set up three tunnels to sanitize a person's whole-body. Required spray machines and thermal scanners have been procured for the holding area, the Devalaya Authority stated.

"We hope that we will be able to complete the process soon by following the DC's guidelines," said Doloi Kabindra Sarma. They underlined that the temple management committee will insist on a medical certificate from the devotees showing COVID-19 Negative result that was issued during the last 3 days.

"The VIPs/VVIPs will have to go through the same process and their entry point will be same as the common people," the Devalaya Authority added.
