Kamrup Metro DC Biswajit Pegu suspends Hotel Shoolin Grand's liquor license

Guwahati: In a rather setback for one of the leading hotels in the Guwahati city, Shoolin Grand gets its liquor license suspended. The order on the suspension of liquor license of the hotel was made by Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu on June 10.

The premier hotel based at Rukmini Gaon in Guwahati had witnessed an incident of nuisance wherein a family was allegedly attacked by the employees of its restaurant "Da Vue" which is based in the rooftop of Hotel Shoolin Grand. The entire incident if misbehave and attack was recorded on CCTV cameras placed in the restaurant which henceforth, proves the guilt of the employees. This incident thus bothered the Kamrup (M) DC to take the step of cancelling Hotel Shoolin Grand’s liquor license.

The reason for the suspension of the liquor license has also been mentioned well in the notice. As stated in the notice, the liquor license was issued to the hotel only on the condition that the hotel will be able to serve liquor to its bonafide boardies only. But by serving it in the roof-top restaurant, it violates the terms and conditions. The roof-top restaurant is not an authorized place to serve liquor and this is why it is considered as a breach of licence condition. Thus, it leads to the suspension of the license.

The hotel was also being allowed to provide with a show cause opportunity which could not be served well by the hotel authority. DC found the reply to be unsatisfactory.

The suspension of the liquor license has certainly hit the hotel hard as a major portion of its revenues is earned from the liquor served. The hotel, notably, has emerged as a promising hotel with multi-faceted services like a banquet hall, conference room, fully-equipped gym, roof-top restaurant, unisex salon and spa, swimming pool, baby care room and luxury suites made available right at one place.
