Kamrup (Metro) DC Biswajit Pegu tests COVID-19 positive

Kamrup (Metro) DC Biswajit Pegu has become the latest top-level bureaucrat in Assam to test positive for the dreaded COVID-19 virus

Guwahati: Biswajit Pegu, the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) district tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus on Monday (August 24).

As per reports, the Kamrup (M) DC has been admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati city after testing positive for the contagion.

Talking to The Sentinel Digital, Pegu confirmed that he was admitted to the hospital in the afternoon on Monday after his test showed his coronavirus test status as "positive."

"I was tested today and have been admitted to the GMCH after the result came in. So far, I have not developed any of the symptoms associated with the virus", Pegu said.

The DC further informed that contact tracing has been initiated and health personnel have been sent to his house to test his family members. "My family members shall also be tested for the coronavirus. We have not yet decided what to do about the office as I have not been there in over 3 days", Pegu said.

As of August 23, Assam has reported a total of 90,740 cases with Kamrup (M) being the worst affected district. The highest number of casualties as well as cases have been reported from the metropolitan district and its surrounding areas.
