KKHSOU 'irregularities': Palash Chetia filed a PIL in Gauhati High Court

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Palash Chetia, a resident of Guwahati, has filed a PIL (37 of 2020) in the Gauhati High Court for an inquiry into the alleged anomalies in the construction of the Guwahati campus of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) at Khanapara as well as its permanent campus at Rani (Patgaon).

The petitioner stated that the University was allowed 61 bighas of land at Rani for the construction of its permanent campus. For the city campus of the University an understanding was reached with Housefed for its construction at cost of Rs 40 crore. Subsequently, without any specific reason the university authority abandoned the project. Thereafter the university authority entered into an agreement with Assam Agricultural University (AAU) and five bighas of land was handed over to Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHOU) by the Assam Agricultural University. However, land was not in the name of AAU and transfer was therefore illegal.

The alleged irregularities were brought to the notice of the Chancellor and the issue was later on forwarded to the office of the Superintendent of Police, Vigilance and Anti Corruption, Assam.

With the advocate of the respondent not appearing in the last hearing of the PIL on July 14, 2020, the court listed the PIL for the next hearing on September 24, 2020.
