GUWAHATI: The State BJP government is adopting rules that go against the interests of the indigenous people, in the name of easing the process of setting up industries in the State, said LDP general secretary Partha Protim Bezbaruah.

In a statement issued to the press, Bezbaruah a recent ordinance passed at the meeting of the Council of Ministers states any land in the State can be used for setting up industries. "It is worth mentioning that in the name of easing the process of setting up industries, the government has decided to use agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes, without even taking permission from the Revenue department. When lakhs of local youth employed in other states are returning to Assam and the need to focus on rural economy and agriculture has been repeatedly focused by us, it is absolutely unacceptable for agricultural land to be cleared for setting up industries. Moreover, the greater danger is that as per the new rules, there would be no need for any departmental permission for setting up industries in the next three years. The repercussions of this is easily imaginable; the road will be clear for appropriating farm land belonging to native farmers, it will become convenient to occupy forest land and even the National parks, outsiders posing as businessmen would even claim land belonging to the Xatras," he said.
