Man held with 8 gold bars worth Rs 43 lakh in Guwahati Railway station

GUWAHATI: Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel apprehend a passenger of Down Kamrup Express at platform No. 1 in Guwahati Railway station and seized eight gold bars from his possession on Sunday.

The passenger, identified as Harish Mahmood (51) of Kerala currently staying at Mumbai where he is working in a shop as a salesman, was bound for Kolkata from Dimapur. The eight gold bars, weighing 1.300 kg, is worth Rs 43 lakh approximately. He confessed before the police that he is just a carrier of the consignment for which the party will pay him only Rs 20,000. He is bound for Mumbai via Kolkata. He has been handed over to Customs sleuths.
