Marwari Hospitals, Guwahati Celebrate Breastfeeding Week

Guwahati: Breastfeeding, also known as nursing, is the feeding of babies and young children with milk from a woman’s breast. Breastfeeding is the most natural way to feed a baby. It provides all the nutrition a baby needs during the first six months of life, satisfies their hunger and thirst at the same time, and helps to create a loving bond between a mother and a child.

To celebrate the pure bond between a mother and her baby, the first week of August is celebrated as World Breastfeeding Week. Synchronizing with the week-long celebration, Marwari Hospitals in association with Inner Wheel Club and Indian Academic of Paediatrics, Guwahati City Branch had organized an awareness programme for ante natal and post natal mothers on Saturday at their Multispeciality Block.

The programme was chaired by Dr Anil Kumar Kalita, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital and attended by a host of senior doctors.

Dr Dewan Walliul Islam, Senior Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynecology, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the importance of breastfeeding, specially, the first milk for the development of the digestive system and brain of a baby, which contributes to the overall growth and building of immune system for the baby.

Further, the gathering was addressed by Rites Kumar Jain, Consultant, Paediatrics who mentioned about the correct positions of breastfeeding and the importance of breastfeeding within 1 hour of delivery with visual presentation.
