GUWAHATI: The Assam High School Music Teachers' Association (AHSMTA) has raised the demand for regularization of their posts.

Addressing the media at Guwahati Press Club on Monday, Association secretary Noor Islam said, "In 2013 when venture schools were provincialized the posts of other teachers and staff members were also provincialized barring the posts of music teacher. The then Education Minister promised to provicianlize our posts within two months. However, that promise has not been translated into reality even today. Now we are a worried lot because of penury. We appeal to the Education Minister to regularize out posts and offer some financial assistance to the music teachers who have already retired without drawing a single salary."

A music teacher, who retired recently without having to draw any salary, said, "I superannuated as a music teacher on July 31, 2020 after working for 24 years. My daughter is going to complete her master's this year. Over the years how could I run my family without salary is beyond description. I've suffered a lot, but I don't to leave the legacy of this suffering to my wards. I appeal to the government to do something so as to recue ill-fated teachers like us."

The Association said that most of the music teachers have barely three to four years service tenure. "Since we can't to do other works to eke out our living, our condition is becoming more and more miserable," of the teachers said.

The demands of the association include regularization of the posts of music teacher by bringing amendment to the relevant Act.
