GUWAHATI: Demanding a high-level inquiry into the killing of three protesters and compensation for them, the Nagarik Samaj has appealed to all protesters to opt for peaceful, non-violent and democratic agitation.

Addressing a press conference at Guwahati Press Club on Saturday, Harekrishna Deka said, “We’ve reached a point where the Central government has imposed an Act upon us which invites an existential crisis to the Assamese, language and culture. On December 11, the BJP government has turned this Bill to an Act, but this day will remain as a black day for Assam and India as well. We appeal to everyone to observe this particular day as a black day.” Deka added, “We’ve witnessed that the administrative has failed in punishing the miscreants who destroyed the public property by taking advantage of the situation. They’ve killed three protesters who were armless. Hence we demand for a judicial inquiry, as to in what condition they were killed along with compensation.”

Ajit Bhuyan said, “The torture that the government is giving us is truly intentional. At first they created a provocative situation by saying that they’ve not witnessed any kind of protest against the CAB. They’re already aware that this kind of provocative statements may result in some kind of untoward and violent incident.”

Bhuyan further claimed that people never protest with measurement, it’s the conspiracy of the government.

He said, “It’s ironical that the government seems to do nothing to reveal the mystery that led the security personnel to shoot the three without resorting to lathi-charge first. We demand a high-level inquiry to reveal the mystery”. The Nagarik Samaj also warned the government to stay away from any kind of conspiracy to divide the society by creating communal flare-up.
