National Health Mission, Assam Launched Diarrhea Awareness Fortnight

GUWAHATI: The National Health Mission, Assam launched the Intensified Diarrhea Control Fortnight (IDCF) campaign on Tuesday to intensify efforts to reduce child deaths due to diarrhoea. The fortnight will be observed from May 28 to June 9, 2019. The State-level launch was held at Swahid Mukunda Kakati Civil Hospital, Nalbari with officials of NHM, headquarters officials from the district administration, public health engineering and education department. According to press release, during the fortnight campaign frontline health workers and other departments’ stakeholders will be sensitized to prioritize investment in control of diarrhea, one of the most common childhood illnesses. It aims at creating mass awareness about the most scientific, effective and economic diarrhoea treatment— a combination of Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) solution and Zinc tablets. More than 34 lakh children will be targeted in this fortnight campaign, the release said.
