NE Products Getting markets Overseas: Chandra Mohan Patowary

GUWAHATI: Industries and Commerce Minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary attended the Fourth Meeting of Council for Trade Development and Promotion, chaired by Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Suresh Prabhu, held at New Delhi on Thursday. Addressing the meeting, the Minister talked at length on the various initiatives of the State Government for the development of trade, commerce and industry sectors.

In his speech, Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary highlighted the measures taken by the government recently to boost exports of food and vegetables to different parts of the world from the state. ‘The State Government has commissioned six Pack Houses and now setting up of a Perishable Air Cargo complex at the Guwahati Airport. In association with SpiceJet airlines, for the first time products of North East are finding markets in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and London’, added the Minister.

The Minister also mentioned about the need of proper mechanism and manpower for running the Land Custom Station to increase business prospects in Assam. Minister Patowary requested the Commerce Ministry to subsidize BSNL for a period of 2 to 3 years to get through bandwidth connectivity from the Cox Bazaar international gateway. This high speed bandwidth connectivity can boost IT exports from North East in a really big way. Industry ministers from different states and representatives from trade organisations also attended the meeting, stated a press release.
