NESSIA Opposes Proposed 75% Hike In Water Tariff

GUWAHATI: The State unit of North Eastern Small Scale Industries Association (NESSIA) expressed its grave concern over the proposal of 75% hiking WATER tariff by the JAL BOARD to all categories of consumers to meet additional revenue requirement of the Board. A high power delegation of NESSIA led by its State President Sailen Baruah, State Secretary Kumud Chandra Medhi and vice president Wg. Comman Nileswar Basumatary called on Jal Board Directorate authority and urged to roll back proposal of hike in water tariff by JAL BOARD for the greater interest of the domestic consumer.

As per a press release, NESSIA urged Jal Board authority to improve existing regular water supply with high pressure flow under Zoo Road water supply project. In Tarun Nagar area particularly in 1 st Bye Lane and 2 nd Bye Lane no water supply is given on Tuesday and Friday. Rest of the days, water is supplied only in morning hours with very low pressure for one to two hours only. This should be reviewed Procurements of water from private supplier in Tanker, which is not affordable to all the consumers due to high price. Most of the house connections are blocked. No maintenance being carried out to clear the line.

NESSIA appeals to the Government of Assam and Chief Minister of Assam to come out in support of consumers and Jal Broad by infusing additional fund and subsidizing the hike of tariff so that consumers are relived and Jal Broad also gets must needed breathing ground.
