NF Railway maintain supply of essential items in Northeast during pandemic

GUWAHATI: The Northeast Frontier Railway has already transported more than 2,826 inbound freight trains from March 25 to July 31, 2020 across the Northeast region of India. Of this, 682 freight-carrying trains were unloaded during July. Among other materials being transported regularly are FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, POL, food grains, fodder, pulses, fertilizer, cement, coal, stone chips, iron and steel, potato, onion, sand, gypsum, maize, pulses, automobiles, and containers. In July, 258 rakes of food grains, 116 rakes of cement, 21 rakes of automobiles, 41 rakes of fertilizer, 25 rakes of salt, 13 rakes of sugar, 47 rakes of POL products, 30 rakes of power house coal, 33 rakes of fly ash were unloaded to mention only a few, to not only meet the essential requirement of common people but also to keep the local economic activity of all the NE states going.

In Assam, 161 rakes of food grains, 16 rakes of fertilizer, 11 rakes of edible oil, 28 rakes of cement and 6 rakes of salt apart from other essential items were unloaded to meet the requirement of various sections of the society during last month. Similarly items were also unloaded in all the States under the jurisdiction of NFR to meet the local requirement of common people, stated a release.

Such huge transportation of food grains and other items by the NFR helped in avoiding any scarcity within its service area which includes all the NE States and a major portion of West Bengal and Bihar during the current pandemic situation. Railway men of this country are providing 24 x 7 services to maintain the supply chain of essential services on a pan-India basis, the release added.
