GUWAHATI: The AJYCP (Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad) has termed its fight against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Bill) as an ‘agitation for the existence of the Assamese’. It has also declared all the three people killed in the agitation against the CAA as ‘martyrs of agitation of existence’.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday, AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai said, “We’re going to take this wave of agitation to each and every village in the State. Parallel to this, we’ll go ahead with our legal battle against the anti-Assam Act.”

The AJYCP staged a six-hour statewide sit-in demonstration on Saturday. “We’re going for a statewide 36-hour hunger strike from December 16. From December 18 we’re going to hold meetings and processions in villages on the ill effects of the new Act. We’ve coined our new slogan – No CAA, yes ILP (No Citizenship (Amendment) Act, yes Inner Line Permit). We appeal to the people of the State to adopt non-violence and democratic agitation so as to make it a long-term affair. We need to be cautious from any sort of conspiracy by the government to derail our agitation,” he said.
