NRL hands over waste handling equipment to GMC

Guwahati, July 5: As part of observance of Swachhata Pakhwada from July 1to July 15 under Swaccha Bharat Abhiyaan, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) took the initiative to keep the city clean by handing over waste handling equipment and vehicles worth Rs 2.2 crore to Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) under its CSR scheme, ‘Parichannata’. The keys for the equipment and vehicles were ceremonially handed over to GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania and GMC Commissioner Monalisa Goswami at the GMC office at Panbazaar on July 4. The equipment included truck mounted Garbage Compactor, GPS fitted rickshaw, tricycle carts, mini skid steer loader and 4-wheeler auto tipper. This has been stated in a press release.

On behalf of NRL, the handing over was done by prominent civil society members Digendra Nath Barua, ex chairman AIDC , ex chairman Guwahati Stock exchange and president Guwahati Management Association and Dhiren Barua ex chairman GMDA and founder president Save Guwahati Build Guwahati. Also, present on the occasion were MD NRL SK Barua, Sr CGM (Mktg & BD) NRL B Ekka, GMC councillors and officials from NRL and GMC.

NRL has extended similar support to municipal corporations/town committees in the towns of Nagaon, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Dergaon, Golaghat , Bokakhat and Koliabor.

Apart from the above, the Company is carrying out a host of other significant activities as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada fortnight in areas near its Refinery at Numaligarh, Assam and its Marketing Terminal at Siliguri, West Bengal. The fortnight started with a swachhata walkathon in Numaligarh on July 1. Swachhata pledge was administered at all locations of the company. A health camp was also organized for 133 safai sathis of Golaghat Municipal Board while ‘health talk’ was conducted among truck drivers and safai sathis at Siliguri Marketing Terminal on July 2 and 4 respectively, the release added .
