Over 15,000 Devotees Throng Sukreswar Temple

GUWAHATI: On the first Monday of Shravani festival devotees seemed to throng different Shiva temples of Guwahati. Speaking to The Sentinel, the permanent priest of Sukreswar Temple Shankar Sharma Shastri said, “The month of Shravan is called as Bolbom. We’ve been celebrating this occasion for years, and devotees from various places come here to offer prayer to Lord Shiva”. He mentioned that during this month, on each Sunday, the devotees collect water from Bashistha Ganga and then by coming on foot they offer the holy water on Lord Shiva on Monday. The adviser of Shukreswar Temple, managing committee, Adhyapak Hitendranath Bhattacharya said, “The Sharvan month is very special, and people all over India celebrate and pray to Lord Shiva. Each year, we witness huge crowds coming to this holy place where Guru Shukracharya is said to be worshipping. This time I’ve seen more than 15,000 devotees offering their prayer”. He added that this historical temple was completed around 500 years.
