PM Narendra Modi’s Rally At Changsari A Drama: Tarun Gogoi

GUWAHATI: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the BJP rally at Changsari in Kamrup district addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday was a drama. He said that the Prime Minister is shedding crocodile tears in Assam now as the Lok Sabha poll is round the corner.

Talking to the media in Guwahati on Sunday, Tarun Gogoi said: “We never heard of Bhumi Pujan. The tradition is laying foundation stones or opening projects and schemes. The PM laid the foundation stone of AIIMS at Changasari earlier.”

Tarun Gogoi said: “The Prime Minister took the names of Gopinath Bordoloi, Lachit Barphukan, Sukapha and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. When we were in power, we started the work of Sukapha Samannay Khetra near Jorhat. What has the present government done in that project in the past three years? Our government erected a statue of Lachit Barphukan in the Brahmaputra in Guwahati. What expansion of the project has the present government done in three years? When we were in power, we too sent proposals to the Centre for honouring Dr. Bhupen Hazarika with Bharat Ratna when Narendra Modi was the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister took Gopinath Bordoloi’s name. Who named the airport at Borjhar in Guwahati after Gopinath Bordoloi? If the Prime Minister really wants to pay tribute to those great souls of Assam, he should cancel the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019. Modi is shedding crocodile tears in Assam now as the Lok Sabha poll is round the corner.”

The former Chief Minister also saw something fishy in the rally at Changsari. “It was said to be a government function. If it was a government function, why wasn’t I invited to it? All MLAs should be invited in government functions. The reality is that the BJP and the government blended into one as the organizer of the function,” Gogoi said.

On the foreigners issue, Gogoi said: “Let the Prime Minister make public as to how many foreigners his government deported in the past four years and a half. Instead of deporting foreigners, they’re now trying to protect foreigners. The BJP’s out to destroy the AASU.”

Gogoi wanted to know as to why the Prime Minister was silent on the Hindustan Paper Corporation mills in Assam.
