Police Grills Woman in Connection with the Fancy Bazar Blast, Released

GUWAHATI: A joint team of the city police and crime branch detained one Chandra Prava Devi from Pathsala on Tuesday and grilled her at the Pathsala police station in connection with the Fancy Bazar blast case. However, she was released later.

Notably, at least five persons, including a woman were injured, after a blast rocked Fancy Bazaar in Guwahati around noon on October 13. The blast went off at the footpath near the Brahmaputra riverfront in Fancy Bazaar. Following the explosion, a case no 687/18 u/s 120(B)/ 325/427/34 IPC read with 3 of Explosive Substance Act was registered at the Panbazar police station. According to a police source, earlier, the city police and crime branch arrested one Paresh Chandra Das (56) from Hajo on October 14 in connection with the blast. However, Das, who has been suffering from diabetic, was admitted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. He works as driver at Assam Engineering Institute located at Chandmari. It must be mentioned here that Das was also arrested in 2006 and 2009 in similar cases. The source further said that the National Security Guard (NGS) has examined the spot on Monday. Meanwhile, the materials collected from the blast site were also sent to the forensic laboratory for examination.
