GUWAHATI: Poll fever has reached its peak with just one day left for filing of nomination papers to the third and final phase of Assembly elections-2021.

The third-phase of Assembly election on April 6 will be held in 40 LACs across the following 12 districts, namely Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Nalbari, and South Salmara. Scrutiny of the papers will be held on March 20 while the last date to withdraw candidature is March 22.

Guwahati witnessed a number of political rallies during the day.

Among those who filed their nomination papers on Thursday included Bharatiya Janata Party's Siddhartha Bhattacharya (for Gauhati East LAC), Atul Bora (Dispur), and HemangaThakuria (Palasbari); Asom Gana Parishad's Ramendra Narayan Kalita (Gauhati West), and Jyotiprasad Das (Boko); Assam Jatiya Parishad's Dulu Ahmed (Hajo), and Pankaj Lochan Goswami (Palasbari); Bodo People's Front's Pramila Rani Brahma (Kokrajhar East); and Congress' Ramen Chandra Bartahakur (Jalukbari).

Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya of the BJP proceeded in a bicycle rally for filing his papers for Gauhati East. Besides his supporters, he was also accompanied by Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Addressing the media, Bhattacharya said, "I'm overwhelmed with the spontaneous support of the masses. This time, the electorates will again ensure our victory with a margin bigger than what we registered during the 2016 Assembly election."

BJP leader Atul Bora said, "Our winning margin in Dispur LAC will be between 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh."

AGP candidate Ramendra Narayan Kalita told the media, "In Gauhati West, the Congress is not at all a factor this time. The masses have come out in total support of our joint force with the BJP. Lots of development works were carried out in this Constituency during the last five years. The remaining projects will be completed in the next five years."

Congress candidate Ramen Chandra Bartahakur said, "The electorates of Jalukbari will vote for a change."

Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be participating in a road show before filing his nominations for Jalukbari seat on Friday.
