GUWAHATI: Pratibandhi Suraksha Sanstha, Assam (PSSA) threatened the BJP-led government against the move to merge the Deendayal Divyangjan Pension and the Orunodoi Scheme. The Deendayal Divyangjan Pension was implemented by the then Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on December 3, 2017.

PSSA secretary Nripen Malakar said, when the Orunodoi scheme was implemented, it was promised that the differently-abled would be given priority but that never happened. The protestors raised their voice against the discrepancies in the appointment of differently-abled candidates.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on January 26 that both schemes would be merged. The protestors said if the government has goodwill it should pay Rs 1000 under the Deendayal Divyangjan Pension and Rs 1,250 under the Orunodoi scheme or Rs 3,000 flat. If the government merges the two schemes, the PSSA has threatened that it will resort to vigorous agitation.

Malakar told the media, according to electoral voters, there are about 1,69,573 voters from the differently-abled category. But the CM said 1,30,000 differently-abled people have been getting pensions and required remuneration. This makes it amply clear that more differently-abled people have not been getting pensions.
