Protesters Condemning CAB Strip Off Their Clothes In Front Of Janata Bhawan

GUWAHATI: At another incident of severe protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, several protestors stripped naked in front of Janata Bhawan on Friday. The protestors who were highly agitated shouted slogans like Joi Aai Axom, Scrape Citizenship Bill, and held placards to display their angst.

The police arrived at the scene and tried to subdue the frantic mob by covering them up with blankets. The three protestors who resorted to half-nude protest, have been identified as Bubul deka, 27, son of Ramesh Deka of Tamulpur, uttar Gandibari, Thaneswar Kalita, 32, son of Hitram Kalita of Dolangpar and Harakanta Das, 32, son of Bhaba Das of Uttar Gandhibari, while Naren Kakati, 45, son of Lt Chandpradhar Kakati of Uttar Gandhibari, stripped completely naked.

The above protestors, reportedly are of KMSS, have been taken into custody and a case (340/19 U/S 120(B)/294/188/34 IPC) has been registered at Dispur police station against the obscene act.

Joint Commissioner of Police D Upadhaya said, “If any person tries to violate the law in this manner, strict action will be taken against them. This indecent behaviour is not acceptable under the Indian Penal Code. For this reason, a Suo Motu case will be registered against the offenders.

Whoever does such an obscene act to the annoyance of the public, action according to 294 IPC will be taken. Un-civilized acts of these sorts which create havoc among the public and will not be tolerated. The police are given special training to prepare for such incidents.”
