Qaumi Ekta Week to be observed from November 19

GUWAHATI: With a view to fostering and reinforcing the spirit of communal harmony, national integration and pride in our vibrant composite culture and nationhood, the ‘Qaumi Ekta Week’ (National Integration Week) will be observed all over the country this year also from November 19 to 25. In this connection a wide range of programmes have been lined up for observation of the ‘Qaumi Ekta Week’.

On November 19, National Integration Day is to be observed with meetings, symposia and seminars to emphasize the themes of secularism, anti-communalism and non-violence.

On November 20, Welfare of Minorities Day is to be observed in which items of the 15 Point Programme may be emphasized. Also in riot prone towns, special fraternal processions may be taken out.

The third day of the week will be observed on 21st November as Linguistic Harmony Day with special literacy functions and Kavi Sammelans to enable people of each region to appreciate the linguistic heritage of other parts of India. On November 22, observations will include programmes like meetings and rallies to observe the Weaker Sections Day. This day will be observed to highlight programmes which help SC/STs and weaker sections with particular emphasis on the distribution of surplus land to landless labourers. On 23rd November, Cultural Unity Day will be observed with cultural functions to present the Indian tradition of Unity in Diversity and for promoting cultural conservation and integration.

Women’s Day will be observed on 24th November to highlight the importance of women in the Indian society and their role in development of nation-building.

The ‘Qaumi Ekta Week’ will conclude on November 25 with observation of Conservation Day. On that day, meetings and functions are to be organized to emphasize the growing need for awareness and action to conserve the environment.

The National Foundation for Communal Harmony organizes a Communal Harmony Campaign coinciding with the ‘Qaumi Ekta Week’ and observes the Communal Harmony Flag Day on November 25, a communiqué said.
