SBIOA North Eastern Circle Condemns SBI Manager's Killing, Demands CBI probe

Guwahati: State Bank of India Officers Association (North Eastern Circle) which is reported to be one of the largest Officers’ Organizations in our North Eastern Region, having a membership of around 4000 officers strongly denounces the barbaric killing of Service Manager of State Bank of India, Dadara Branch, Junu Sarma on Wednesday.

Service Manager, Junu Sarma was shot dead from point blank range by two armed motorcycle-borne miscreants at Agiathori yesterday evening, while returning from her office to home.

Reportedly two men on a motorcycle, wearing helmets broke the window pane of the car and shot her from close range. Although the driver rushed her to Narayana Hospital at North Guwahati immediately, we have been given to understand that she was declared “brought dead” as she had expired on the spot itself succumbing to her grievous injuries.

What is all the more deplorable is that the murder took place at a time when all bank employees and officers are under tremendous pressure to meet the public demand along with the pressure of the Government/Management of fulfilling targets.

In a press statement, Rupam Roy General Secretary, SBIOA, North Eastern Circle said “All our officers have been working for more than 12 hours a day and incidents like this will only demoralize them and bring in a sense of fear and abhorrence among them. We treat the senseless killing of Junu Sarma as a cowardly act on the part of the attackers, but at the same time, it is also a gross failure on the part of the administration in maintaining basic security and safety to the citizens.”

“We, on behalf of the SBIOA, North Eastern Circle intend to make it very clear that we demand a prompt and proper investigation to this killing and bring the culprits to book and also prevent the recurrence of such heinous crimes in future on the bankers in particular and any citizen in general. We the Bank Employees/Officers in unison, demand from the Government to order for a CBI enquiry to get into the truth and nab the perpetrators of this barbarous crime of killing a lady in a public place, or else we will be forced to move ahead with our organizational movement which will cause inconvenience to the common mass at large,” added Rupam Roy.

Meanwhile, Sbioa North Eastern Circle has decided to hold a demonstration cum condolence programme today at a public place in Guwahati.

Also, the Officers/Employees were seen wearing black badges today at their respective Offices all throughout the North Eastern Region to protest against the alleged inefficient administration which has ultimately paved the way for the brutal murder of Service Manager Junu Sarma.
