Guwahati: The administrative control of the commercial branch of the State Bank of India has changed from Guwahati to the CCGRO in Kolkata, West Bengal.

An official, under condition of anonymity, told The Sentinel Digital this move is exclusively meant for the benefit of the big corporate clients. "All the big clients fall under this category. This is expected to be less time-consuming and the decision-making speed is expected to be much faster. The clients earlier had to wait for a long time for their transactions, but it could be sped up now with the change in administrative control. This is just one branch and customers will not be impacted in any shape or form

It is to be mentioned here that the branch was under the National Banking Group and once shifted to Kolkata, the bank could serve the interests of the corporate clients better, the official said. "This move is purely for the satisfaction and convenience of the clients and is expected to boost dealings and transactions", the official added.

Commercial banking operation of the State Bank of India (SBI) in the North Eastern Region is bracing itself for a major change with the shifting of administrative control of the bank's operations from Guwahati to Kolkata. However, there will be no impact on retail banking in the region, as this move is expected to only impact the very big clients dealing in transactions worth at least Rs 25 crore.
