GUWAHATI: The Silver Jubilee celebration of the North East Girl students Association (NEGSA) was inaugurated by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Shipping, Waterways and AAYUSH today, at All Assam Lawyers' Association Conference Hall. He also released a souvenir published on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal highly appreciated the programme and the efforts of NEGSA for the uplift and economic empowerment of the girls and womenfolk. Launching an awareness programme on various welfare schemes for girls and women, Sonoweal remarked that the lack of awareness has affected the proper implementation of various schemes initiated by the government. He hoped that NEGSA will play a powerful role in creating the necessary awareness amongst the public so that girls and women can receive proper benefits from the effort of Government. Munmi Dutta, President of NEGSA, delivered the welcome speech and reiterated the commitment of the association to make a continuous effort for the holistic development of society. Siddhartha Bhattacharyya, MLA, Robin Kalita, Director, Royal Global University, Dr Subrata Sarma Bhattacharyya, Former Vice Principal, Cotton College, Manoj Das, former DGM, NEDFI and Dipak Das, general secretary of All Assam Lawyers' Association participated as guests of honour and Nabajit Dutta, Associate Professor, Department of Physics of Handique Girls' College and Founder Adviser.

NEGSA presented a brief report about its various activities during the past 25 years and also presented a future action plan for the association. Highly appreciating the idea of launching the awareness programme, Dutta said that the success of the awareness programme will bring visible and impactful changes by truly empowering the future mothers of society.

A cultural programme was held in the evening where students from various colleges participated and presented highly colourful and lively items. The inaugural programme was anchored by Debajani and the Cultural Programme was anchored by Sweta Choudhury and Sumaya Sultana. NEGSA is organizing a career counseling-cum-leadership training and a cooking competition-cum-food exhibition on January 29,

as a part of the second-day programme. The Students Union of Handique Girls' College under the leadership of Narsima Begum, President, Gauri Gogoi, Vice President Ananya Sharma, General Secretary, Bidisha Bujarbaruah, and Cultural Secretary actively participated in organizing the programme.
