Social worker Evelyntice Sajem to get Sati Radhika Award 2020

GUWAHATI: Noted social worker Evelyntice Sajem has been named as a recipient of the Sati Radhika Award 2020 that was instituted by the Assam Government.

Sajem will be the first recipient of the award which has been introduced by the Government from this year.

Along with the award, she will receive an amount of Rs 2 lakh, a memento and an angabastra.

The award will be conferred by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati on September 2 at a programme held under the Directorate of Cultural Affairs in association with Asom Anusuchit Jati Yuva Chatra Santha and Sadou Asom Anusuchit Jati Chatra Santha. Born in 1947, Sajem has been contributing immensely to the empowerment of women and various other social works in the area for years.

She joined the Halflong Girls' High School as a founder teacher in 1966.The school was later developed as a higher secondary school and in the 1999 she took charge as the vice principal followed by the position of the principal in 2003. She retired in 2006.

Sajem is the first Scheduled Tribe (ST) woman to be graduated from the Dima Hasao district.

She was involved with the Jatinga Mothers' Association as an adviser and worked for women empowerment, health, and child welfare in the area. Her hard work and dedication led to 100 per cent literacy rate among the women of Jatinga.

Sajem was also a member of the Assam School Service Association and an executive member of the Church Auxiliary Social Action.

For her continuous social contribution, in 2013 she was conferred the prestigious Samajpan Sarbeswar Dutta Memorial State-level Social Service Award. In 2016, the Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) Halflong branch also felicitated her for her selfless service.
