State Government Released Rs 20 Crore For Flood Relief

GUWAHATI: The State Government released another Rs 20.10 crore for flood relief on Monday for 19 flood-affected districts and five subdivisions. Earlier, the State Government had released Rs 23.53 crore GR (gratuity relief) funds on three occasions. Dispur has an allocation of Rs 100 crore for GR fund under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the fiscal 2019-20. The total SDRF allocation in fiscal 2019-20 is Rs 559 crore, including the Central share. The funding pattern of this fund between the Centre and the State is 90:10.

Meanwhile, the State Revenue and Disaster Management Department is waiting for release of the first installment of the Central share of SDRF funds amounting to Rs 252 crore. The department wrote to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for that installment recently.

The State Revenue and Disaster Management Department has asked the deputy commissioners to pay ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of each people killed in floods within 48 hours. Meanwhile, the department claims to have adequate disaster response funds with it. As on April 1 this year, it had Rs 330 crore disaster response funds.
