Traders and labourers are also Corona Warriors: APCC spokesperson

GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) spokesperson and State President of All India Professionals' Congress Assam chapter Gaurav Somani has termed the traders and workers as 'Corona Warriors' for their efforts in ensuring the food supply in the state despite the scare. A press release issued by Somani stated that the traders and labourers are also Corona Warriors like health, sanitization workers and police. They have been keeping alive the food supply chain in the state by risking their lives at this hour of crisis and amid this battle some labourers of Fancy Bazaar have been infected with COVID-19, said Somani.

"It is unfortunate that government and administration did not provide them any facilities and safety but some sections have been trying to blame them by various means. In order to fight against COVID-19 pandemic, five places of Guwahati including Fancy Bazaar have been declared as containment zones. Some people have been blaming the labourers for this situation but no one is realizing that how can the citizens get ration at home if the labourers don't work at Fancy Bazaar," said Somani.

The APCC spokesperson also expressed his gratitude to the traders and businessmen who have been working to continue the food supply without thinking about their lives. He expressed his salutation to the businessmen and labourers for their service.

Somani has appealed the government and district administration to provide PPE kits, masks, hand sanitize and other essentials to the traders and workers as precautionary measures against COVID-19.

"Apart from this, I demand the government and administration to take immediate action according to rules and regulations to reopen the shops at Fancy Bazaar and to normalize the business activities gradually as per the situation permits. Because Fancy Bazaar is the centre of supply of food and other essential commodities throughout the Northeast," Somani added.

The Congress leader further said that his party has been discussing the current situation with various business organizations and traders and appealed the citizens of the State to observe the norms set by the government.
