GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (M) District Administration has turned down the request of the Kamrup Chamber of Commerce (KCC) to open shops on both sides of the streets in Guwahati since many of the shops have their godowns on their other side.

Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu chaired the meeting regarding the opening of shops and other business establishments during the two-week lockdown period in the district.

Spelling out the order issued on July 18, 2020 the Deputy Commissioner requested all traders to get themselves tested along with their employees, delivery persons and others for COVID-19.

Regarding the opening of shops and business establishments, he said that shops on the right side of streets would remain open on Monday, and those in the left sides of streets on Tuesday. He further said that left and right sides of streets would be decided by taking Paltan Bazar as the nodal point. Citing examples, he said from Paltan Bazar towards Khanapara right hand side shops will remain open on Monday, from Jalukbari to Noonmati right hand side shops would remain open on Monday, Jalukabari to VIP Road and Azara right hand side on Monday; Six Mile to Narengi right hand side on Monday; Six Mile to Panjabarl right hand side on Monday.

In the next week, the reverse system of opening will be done i.e. on Monday, left side and on Tuesday right side and so on. In remaining areas of small lanes and bye-lanes the local trade bodies will finalize the right or left side as per government order mentioned above, the DC said, and added that it was strictly clarified that only one side of the shops, business establishments will be open on any given day, and failure to comply with the orders will invite necessary actions, including summary cancellation of licences, the DC said.
