Upamanyu Hazarika Denies Allegations By BJP Legal Cell

GUWAHATI: Prabajan Virodhi Manch supported Independent Candidate from No 7 Lok Sabha Constituency, Upamanyu Hazarika, who was charged with breaking into the BJP election office denied the charges and deemed them false.

The party charged that Hazarika, along with 30 to 40 supporters, broke into the election office at new Guwahati Tiniali of Ward no 48 when the bearers went out to take lunch at around 1 to 1.30 pm on Sunday. They stated that he visited the office with ill and malafide intention to cause disturbance of peace and tranquility during election times. The BJP legal cell further accused that after the bearers returned to the office, a huge number of important documents went missing and the obvious suspect was Hazarika and his associates,

Alleging these claims, the Law and Legal Affairs Department of BJP lodged a case (175/19) at Noonmati police station, asking for justice.

Upamanyu Hazarika, on his part, denied the charges at a press meet on Monday and claimed that complaints against him and his fellow colleagues of trespassing into an empty office and having stolen publicity material only makes them a laughing stock because he entered at 3.38 pm. He stated that since the entire events were recorded live on social media and various TV channels, it proves that the charges are false. “It is a matter of tragedy for the people that today’s trend of politics being preserved for the incompetents and the corrupt and for which we all have to pay a heavy price, and for which reason, the indigenous today are on the way to becoming a minority”, he said. Hazarika on his part has stated that he will lodge a counter complaint at Noonmati police station against the BJP legal cell.
