We don’t want everyone to become a filmmaker: GIFF-2018 Artistic Director Rahul Jain

GUWAHATI: “We do not want everyone to become a filmmaker. Indeed, we want everyone to become a conscious global citizen who can understand and grasp what is happening around the world by viewing global cinemas of immense worth,” said GIFF-2018 Artistic Director Rahul Jain.

Talking to The Sentinel on Saturday alongside the ongoing ‘2nd Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF)-2018’ premiere at Small Theatre premises of the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Jain said, “GIFF-2018 will be a big lesson for the students beyond the class rooms to learn the world culture and society through cinema. It will produce cine lovers in our state. I believe, it will change their lives in one way or other.”

Responding to a question as to how GIFF-2018 can reach to a larger audience Jain observed, “Due to absence of infrastructures, these films cannot be brought to the rural areas. Hence, GIFF-2018 can really turn a great opportunity for the cine lovers.”

Highlighting that at least six thousand people have visited the GIFF-2018 on Saturday, Jain maintained, “At least 50% of the visitors will bring these cinemas in the coming days and watch which will help us in transforming cinema from a mere medium to an industry.”

Emphasising that creating a healthy film culture in the state is one of the commitments of the festival, Jain added, “Learning, sharing and exchange of ideas with the renowned world filmmakers will motivate us a lot and this will go a long way in cultivating good stories.”

Notably, this time, the scale of foreign and domestic participation, world, ASEAN and India premiere, number of guests, delegates and local visitors has trebled the crowd of the event.
