Woman Commits Suicide From New Saraighat Bridge In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A woman committed suicide by jumping into the Brahmaputra from the New Saraighat Bridge in Guwahati on Sunday.

The woman, who was later identified as Doli Shah, wife of Amit Shah of Fatasil Ambari, was seen coming from the Jalukbari side and jumping into the river from the New Saraighat Bridge. People working there soon rushed with a boat, rescued her and took her to the Government Ayurvedic College where she was declared dead.

She left behind two children, besides her husband. The river police sent her body to the GMCH for post-mortem.

In another incident, SDRF personnel, who went to the Saraighat bridge in connection with the woman who had committed suicide there earlier in the day, recovered the body of a youth aged around 35-40 years held back by post No. 5 of the Old Saraighat Bridge. The highly decomposed body has been sent to the GMCH for post-mortem. Now the body is in the GMCH morgue.
