6th folk dance workshop from today

GUWAHARTI, March 19: The Sanskritic Mancha Assam (SMA), along with Sangeet tak Akademi (S) and North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) of Ministry of Culture under Government of India, is going to organize the sixth folk dance workshop at Silpgram at Panjabari in the city from March 20 to April 1.

SMA secretary Dipjyoti Hazarika said today: “The workshop will be held under three heads like Bihu dance, Bihu Dhol and Lewata Nrittya of Hajong tribe of the state. More than hundreds of trainees will participate in the workshop, which will be supervised by Bihu scholar Anil Saikia and Dhol expert Dhaneswar Saikia (Oja). Eminent actor Pranjal Saikia will be the principal adviser of the workshop, which will also be supervised by various Bihu Samraggees and Bihu and Hajong dance experts.” “We are also going to felicitate Dhol exponent Golap Oja of Dibrugarh and Holiram Oja of Jorhat by giving away the ‘Barhamthuri Shilpi Bota’ award for the year 2015 and 2016 respectively. The awards will be given away on the concluding ceremony of the workshop on April 1, which will be attended by Governor of Assam PB Acharya,” added Hazarika.
