GUWAHATI, July 5: Slogans for boycotting Chinese goods are spontaneous these days, so is the rise in the number of organizations taking up the issue. Swadeshi Jagaran Abhiyan is one among them.

Talking to newsmen at Guwahati Press Club here on Tuesday, Swadeshi Jagaran Abhiyan chief convener and noted actor Pranjal Saikia said: “Import and export among different countries are a must. Going by that, there’s trade relation between Chi and India. Now Chi is the biggest intertiol stakeholder for India. India imports products worth $ 61.80 billion every year from Chi against the export of raw material worth $ 9 billion olny. This makes India to bear the deficit of 52.80 billion dollar yearly. This is not all. Chi has captured 44 per cent of India’s consumer market. Even then, Chi doesn’t desist from posing threat to the security of India. A number of Assam industries like the bell metal industry at Sarthebari, the jute and silk industry at Suwalkuchi, the cracker industry at Barpeta have been badly beaten by cheap Chinese products. This has led to unemployment to lakhs of people in the country.”

Saikia said: “Taking that in view, we’re going to stage demonstrations against the use of Chinese goods in Guwahati from July 15 to 30. A citizens’ meeting will also be held in Guwahati in the first week of August so as to bring about awareness among the consumers on the ill effects of using Chinese goods. From August 20 to 30, such awareness programmes will be carried out all over the State.”
