AGP for decentralization of power at panchayat level

GUWAHATI, March 26: In an emergency meeting in Guwahati on Monday, the AGP has resolved that in the upcoming panchatay polls in Assam, the party’s principal mantra would be decentralization of power at the grassroots level so that the real power reaches the common people in rural areas. The party has decided to join the poll fray with full support of the common people and for the purpose the needful initiatives like mobilization of the people by highlighting burning issues of rural areas will be taken up.
The meeting attended by the Central Committee members and presidents and secretaries of all district committees and sister organizations of the AGP also resolved to strengthen the base of regiolism in the State while reaching out to the rural folks.
For the said purpose, the party has decided to organize a booth-level meeting of the workers at the Veteriry College field at Khapara, Guwahati, on April 5. As per the resolution of the meeting, the presidents and the secretaries of the district committees have been given the responsibility of making the meet a success. On the other hand, the AGP condemned the rising incidences of rape and molestation that have occurred in several parts of the state in the recent past and has urged the Government to bring the culprits to book while demanding that stringent punishment be meted out to the guilty. The meeting also called upon the government to take measures to provide full security to women in the state.
Through its resolutions, the party has also demanded of the state and the central governments to revive the HPC paper mills at Jagiroad and Cachar. The AGP has also urged the State Government to solve the stalemate presently prevailing in Assam Women University in Jorhat.
