GUWAHATI, Sept 25: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has opposed the state Government’s eviction drive in three villages of Banderdubi, Palkhowa and Deochurchang, situated at the fringe areas of Kaziranga tiol Park.

“The Government has acted in a one-sided manner while evicting the people of the three villages. They (Government) acted as if they are trying to take grudge against these villagers,” said AIUDF spokesperson and General Secretary (GS) Abdul Rahim Khan.

He stated that the Government should have resettled the villagers and provide them with compensation before carrying out the eviction drive.

“The Government action proves that it is targeting a particular community which may lead to conflict between various communities and tribes,” Khan remarked.

He further stated that a total area of 39,901,56 bighas of land are under encroachment in Assam. “The state has a total land area of 171,86,897 bighas out of which 39,901,56 bighas are under encroachment. These land area are under encroachment of tea garden owners, big industrialists and politicians. No action has been taken by any Government to make these land area encroachment free,” Khan alleged.

The AIUDF spokesperson also stated that 77829.47 hectre of Assam land are under encroachment by the neighbouring states. “Inspite of having the same BJP Government at the Centre and the state, no action has been taken so far to evict the people settled in these encroached lands,” he said.  Khan further alleged the Foreigners’ Tribul is acting at the behest of the state Government.
