Health department signs pact with HLL Lifecare for setting up pharmacies in medical college

GUWAHATI, Aug 11: State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the government would set up six ‘Amrit Pharmacies’ at six Medical College Hospitals in Assam.

An MoU was signed today between state Health Department and HLL Lifecare Limited in this connection in the presence of BP Khandowal, chairman of HLL Lifecare and Anup Barman, Director of Medical Education, Assam.

With a view to reduce the expenditure incurred by patients on treatment of various diseases, Dispur has entered into the memorandum of understanding with HLL Lifecare Limited for setting up “Amrit Pharmacies” in six government medical college hospitals of Assam.

Oncology and Cardiovascular medicines and implants will be made available to the patients at the AMRIT pharmacies.

The prices offered to the patients of the six Medical College Hospitals and to the general public will be reasobly lower than the market prices. Sarma said that the first pharmacy will be set up at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital within one month.  “The rest five pharmacies will be set up in the five other medical colleges of the State in the next three months,” he said. He further said that if these six pharmacies run successfully, then the department will open more such pharmacies in 27 districts of the State.

Assam government has sanctioned HLL to set up, maintain and operate “AMRIT Pharmacies” at the rent free space allotted in a public-private partnership to provide drugs, surgical and implants.

Other consumables to patients of the hospitals & general public based on valid prescription and to the hospital stores requirement if any at an affordable cost.

The AMRIT Pharmacies will be set up in Gauhati Medical College Hospital, Guwahati, Assam Medical College Hospital, Dibrugarh. Jorhat Medical College Hospital, Jorhat. Tezpur Medical College Hospital. Sonitpur, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College, Barpeta and Silchar Medical College Hospital, Silchar.  HLL will obtain drug license, recruit and engage qualified pharmacist and required staff for maging AMRIT Pharmacies stores with the software system. AMRIT Pharmacies will provide 24X7 services to the patients. HLL Lifecare Ltd is a Central government enterprise under direct administrative control of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia besides the principals of the six medical colleges were present in the programme.
