GUWAHATI, Sept 3: The office-bearers of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) were engaged in a blame-game today on the debacle which the party had to face in the Assam Assembly elections this year.

The party had its office-bearers’ meeting at Rajiv Bhavan today on the eve of its extended executive committee meeting slated to be held tomorrow at Mabendra Sarma Complex at Dispur tomorrow. The office-bearers’ meeting of the party was very hot today with most of the office-bearers blaming each other for the defeat in the last Assembly election. A section of office-bearers said that the party had to suffer the worst-ever defeat because of the pride of a number of the then ministers and the rat race between them. Another section of office-bearers said that the party had to face the defeat as the strong candidates were denied party tickets. “Some traditiol Congress LACs had to be lost due to fielding of weak candidates. A number of strong party candidates were denied party tickets in the lobbying, and that cost the party dearly,” another section of party leaders said.

Later APCC president Ripun Bora told the media that the party had to suffer defeat in the last Assembly election due to its own negligence.

Meanwhile, the extended executive committee meeting of the party is going to be held tomorrow. According to party sources, the executive committee meeting of the party is also likely to be hot as the issues that rocked today’s office-bearers’ meeting are likely to be raked up tomorrow as well.
