Appointment letters to 274 engineers

GUWAHATI, Jan 12: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Friday ceremonially distributed appointed letters to newly recruited assistant engineers and junior engineers of APDCL, AEGCL and APGCL at a programme at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in the Guwahati. A total of 274 new recruits, including 148 assistant engineers and 126 junior engineers, have got appointment in the three companies of the power department.  

Urging the newly appointed employees of APDCL, APGCL and AEGCL to make their companies the catalyst for holistic development of Assam by powering agriculture and industry, providing light to rural and urban households and improvising interl resources for continually upgrading technology & delivery systems to bring happiness to the people’s lives, Sonowal called upon the companies to become people friendly and prompt in service delivery.  

Taking part as the chief guest in the programme, Chief Minister Sonowal said that all want light in their lives and power is the driving force for developing human society. Stressing the importance of electricity in everyday lives of the people, Sonowal said that negative image in popular perception of the state power department must be changed with dedicated service delivery by the officials. Recalling the plight of the people during the flood season last year when many lost their lives due to bamboo and wooden electricity poles being uprooted, Sonowal urged the power department to complete the replacement work of such polls in the state with concrete poles at an early date.  He also called on the people to take responsibility in reporting about the faulty polls and overhead cables so that they can be replaced in due time by the power department.

“The society is looking at you with hope for lighting their lives and you, being the representatives of the young generation of the state, must take it up as a challenge to work dedicatedly to change the power scerio here. The effort being put in place for Global Investors’ Summit to be held in the state would only be successful when the investors would express their interest to set up companies here and for that we must be able to provide secure and uninterrupted power connection to them,” Sonowal added.  The Chief Minister also launched two mobile applications mely My-bijulee App which can be used by the consumers for paying bills, checking their power usage etc and E-Suvidha App which would be used for spot billing by APDCL for increasing revenue collection. Together with the apps, he also launched the online facility for applying for new power connections.

Minister of State for Power Pallab Lochan Das, Legal and Media Advisers to the Chief Minister Shantanu Bharali and Hrishikesh Goswami, Principal Secretary of Power Department and Chairman of three companies Jishnu Baruah, MD APDCL Puru Gupta were also present on the occasion, among others.
