Guwahati, April 5: Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission ( ASRLM) , under the Panchayat & Rural Development department, Government of Assam, organized a ‘State Employers’ Meet 2018 ’ on April 5, under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalaya Yoja (DDU-GKY) at Guwahati . The objective of the meeting was to provide a platform for all the stakeholders in skilling and the employment sector.

Speaking on the occasion, Molisa Hazarika, Project Mager ASRLM explained in details about the objective of the programme.

While the ASRLM was established to address the challenges of rural poverty in the State by providing support for livelihood, Hazarika pointed out that the Mission is implementing the DeenDayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yoja (DDU-GKY) in the state with the objective of enhancing skill among rural youth by providing training in various job roles and of creating job opportunities. The target of the scheme is to train 78,508 rural youth in Assam within a period of three years from 2016 to 2019 and to provide them placements with regular wages.

The Project Mager pointed out that as per a report of a study conducted by the North Eastern Development Fince Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi), the trainees face problems to relocate in places outside Assam due to climate, working conditions, low salary level, language problems and the like. Also, most of the placement dropouts were keen to work in establishments within the State.

Further, as per the report, there is very little awareness about the DDU-GKY schemes among the establishments in the state while the total requirement of hired workers in Assam is estimated to be 1,75,310 persons per year for a three-year period, i.e. till December 2020.

The objectives of the first ever ‘Employers’ Meet held in Guwahati on Thursday  were to build a congenial environment with job opportunities in Assam for the unemployed rural youth trained under DDU-GKY, to create newer skill profiles for the rural youth to adapt to the changing market demands, to improve the awareness of the DDU-GKY scheme to among establishments to tap the human resource pool among others
