Assam Governor greets AAU

GUWAHATI, January 16: Assam Governor PB Acharya has appreciated the thoughtful and purposeful initiative by the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat for observing Magh Bihu with a creative mind to spread awareness and preserve the rice diversity of the State, by enriching the common man about the research and the dedicated work of the University in the field of indigenous seed varieties.

As part of the celebration of Magh Bihu, the University arranged Bhogali Mela with an exhibition of the indigenous variety of seeds, methods of improving yield, uses of indigenous varieties to eble better marketability to improve the fincial standard of the farmers, a press release issued from Raj Bhavan said.

The Governor said that the relevance of research and knowledge stored in the ivory towers of the University by the young boys and girls have to yield good results to help the society. The Governor appealed to other Universities also to explore the avenues to educate and help the youth and the society on the whole. He reiterated that research being conducted in the Universities should be relevant to the social and economic problems being faced by the society and help in solving them.  He said that Universities have to be the power centres of social revolutions.
