Assam to run in honour of 61 BSF martyrs from State on October 22

GUWAHATI, Oct 8: The BSF is going to hold half-marathon on October 22 in Guwahati to commemorate the contributions and sacrifices made by 61 border guards from Assam among the 1850 at the tiol level since inception of the Force.

Such sacrifices by the BSF guards are supreme as they are deployed in difficult terrain and in inhospitable environment, said BSF’s Guwahati Frontier IG Rakesh Agarwal. “Since its inception, Seema Suraksha Bal has lost 1850 Gallant Seema Praharies who have laid their lives in their service to tion. Out of these, 61 martyrs belong to Assam. I feel immensely proud to say that the BSF martyrs of Assam have been awarded with eight President Police Medal for Gallantry, one Police Medal for Gallantry and 1 Balidan Prateek for their valiant actions and self-sacrifices,” Agarwal said, and added: “To acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices to the tion and society by the BSF martyrs, BSF has placed a plaque of each martyr in the premises of school at his tive place with assistance of Principal concerned so that children of the locality may know and be inspired from the supreme sacrifice made by a person, who was one amongst them.”

The BSF half marathon, Agarwal said, will be flagged off from Ground of Veteriry College, Khapara, Guwahati at 5.30 am and the participants have to traverse through route via GS Road- First Flyover (6th Mile) — Second Flyover (Ganeshguri) — Third Flyover (Big Bazar) — under 4th Flyover Ulubari - Flyover Railway Track Guwahati Club Chariali & take ‘U’ Turn to the same route till starting point covering a distance of 21 km. “This apart, there will be a run for unity to be flagged off from same venue of Half Marathon covering distance of five km at 6 am,” the IG said.
