Atul Bora urges HC to initiate contempt proceedings against Gogoi

GUWAHATI, Sept 27: Dispur legislator Atul Bora has urged Gauhati High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for his statement over the eviction drive at Kaziranga.

Addressing a press conference here today, Bora said, “The eviction drive was carried out by the State Government on the order of Guwahati High court and Gogoi has said that his government did not carry out the eviction even when the High Court ordered it because they did not want to do anything that would have disturbed the Congress vote bank.  This is a clear case of contempt of Court by Gogoi and I have therefore requested the High Court to take cognizance in this regard and draw contempt proceedings against him.”

“Gogoi himself said that no action was taken against the encroachers in Kaziranga tiol Park, because he did not want to disturb the Vote Bank. His statement reflects his and his party’s open support for illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators. It is clear that the former Chief Minister and his party are not willing to disturb the vote bank even if a tiol Park is destroyed,” Bora added.

He said that during the last 15 years, all their efforts were for consolidation of the vote bank and he worked all the time to expand the vote bank by allowing the infiltrators from across the border to settle and consolidate their position in forests and other places throughout the State on both sides of the Brahmaputra.

“There is no doubt that the large settlements of the illegal infiltrators in both Lower Assam and Upper Assam have been allowed to develop and expand with the active connivance and collusion of Gogoi,  his government and his party,” said the Dispur MLA.
