Azara beyond the reach of Swachh Bharat Mission!

From our Correspondent

AZARA, Nov 10: The slogans of Swachh Bharat Mission is heard almost everywhere where in the country due to the wide coverage by the television. However, strangely enough, the Azara area on the outskirts of Guwahati seems to lie beyond the reach of the drive. May spots in the city outskirts are veritable garbage dumping zones.

Due to prolonged negligence on the part of the local administration, morasuti Kalmoni River is a veritable dumping ground in front of Azara police station. People staying there run the risk of being sick as the air there always stinks. The dead river is used by many in the area to throw garbage. Heaps of garbage in stagnt water is a perfect condition under which microbes responsible for various diseases multiply their own kinds and spread diseases. A place adjacent to the fish market in the Godhuli Bazar in Azara is another spot where people cannot stand for a long time. Garbage being produced in the market is thrown in the area, making the air there unfit for inhaling. However, there are many hotels and restaurant doing business. Thus the public health in the area is seriously under threat. The situation in the area near VIP Chowk is no better either. People throw garbage there, and keep the spot stinking round the clock.
