BJP leaders huddle together, so do top AIUDF supremos

GUWAHATI, May 6: The BJP and the AIUDF will rack their brains separately from tomorrow in the run-up to the announcement of poll results on May 19.  The leaders of both the parties are set to huddle separately so as to draw strategies to meet the post-result situation to form the government at Dispur.

The meetings are touted as crucial as both the parties claim to be able to lead the government at Dispur. While the BJP expresses its confidence to lead a coalition government with the AGP and the BPF, the AIUDF also claims that it is strong enough to lead a third front government comprising the AGP and the BPF, with or without the Congress.

The BJP meeting at Shilpgram in the city tomorrow is to be attended by all party candidates, district presidents, state office-bearers, all party MPs, tiol observers Rammadhab and Ramlal, State in-charge and polling agents. The meet is supposed to compute on the number of seats which the party is set to win, besides drawing strategies for the formation of the government. The meeting will be a daylong affair.

Meanwhile, the AIUDF is going to hold its core committee meeting in its party office in the city tomorrow to chalk out strategies to be followed in the would-be post-result scerio in the State. Party president Badruddin Ajmal has already made it clear that AIUDF candidates to be declared winners will be vulnerable as the leaders of other parties will be on the prowl to hunt them. In such an apprehension, the party is working overtime not to allow its members fall prey to other parties. Ajmal was also on record saying that he has a plan to take all winning candidates abroad soon after the declaration of the poll results. A question that remains to be answered is: can horse-trading be stopped in Assam by taking MLAs abroad? It not anything else, such a move is enough to expose the very standard of politicking being practiced in Assam.

The AIUDF candidates, office-bearers and polling agents are also going to meet on May 8 at Shilpgram. The obvious reason behind the meeting is permutation and combition, besides drawing strategy.
