GUWAHATI, June 24: Two famous children’s plays – ‘Xanto Xisto Hristo Pushto Mahadusto’ written by Bhabendra th Saikia and ‘Moi Tuniye Tun Tulo’ written by bakanto Baruah – will be staged at Rabindra Bhavan on June 26 and 27 under the aegis of INLI Foundation, in collaboration with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Assam. The plays would also be staged at the district library in Mangaldai on June 25.
The plays would be staged by children born and brought up in Delhi and a few adults.
“The children going to perform in the plays are born and brought up in Delhi. Being in Delhi they are normally away from the frequent use of the Assamese language and environment. They tried their best and faced challenges while understanding some wordings in Assamese written by famous playwrights like xamukharkhola (hermit’s shell), jethikoni (domestic lizard’s eggs).  They have already performed the plays in LTG auditorium in Delhi in 2013. They are willing to perform in front of the Assamese people,” Indrajit Das, who is associated himself with planning and magement, said.
“The children cannot read and write Assamese. The scripts are composed in Hindi and English for their understanding. The children had to practice the lines repeatedly to achieve the right tone and accent,” he added. The plays are directed and designed by Parag Sarmah. INLI Foundation is a socio-cultural trust founded in the memory of late Bhabendra th Saikia. It is working in Delhi to familiarize the Assamese kids born and brought up in Delhi with rich cultural heritage and moral values of Assamese society through Drama, Dance and Music.
