From A Correspondent
GUWAHATI, June 29:  In sync with the World Demand Day, the Kamrup Metro District Committee of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has put forwarded a slew of demands to the Central Government, demanding protection of the Employee’s State Insurance Scheme.
The Unions observed the World Demand Day by taking out a protest March at Dighalipukhuripar in the city on Thursday. The catalogue of demands put forwarded by the organizations include safeguard of the Employee’s State Insurance scheme, providing food security card to the labourers and to provide food stuffs such as sugar, rice, kerosene, etc,  besides registering the MNERGA labourers as the construction workers in the Labour Department.
Citing these demands, the CITU has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the district administration.
Speaking during the protest march, the president of Kamrup Metro District Committee of CITU, Biren Deka, said: “The labourers and their families are deprived of modern health care benefits. So the ESI plays a crucial role in providing safeguard to the labourers. Thus, we demand the protection of ESI scheme.”
